This episode of Charming Disaster’s weekly livestream series is presented by the Natural History Society of Maryland, and features songs, science, secrets, divinations, diversions, and special guest NHSM archeologist Lisa Kraus!
Brooklyn-based musical duo Charming Disaster was formed in 2012 by Ellia Bisker and Jeff Morris. Inspired by the gothic humor of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, the noir storytelling of Raymond Chandler, the murder ballads of the Americana tradition, and the dramatic flair of the cabaret, they write songs that tell stories, using two voices to explore dark narratives and characters with a playfully macabre sensibility. Their music has been featured on the spooky hit podcast Welcome to Night Vale, they recently toured with legendary cello-rock ensemble Rasputina, and their third album, SPELLS + RITUALS, was released in 2019 to critical acclaim. Their theatrical, entertaining live performances have engaged audiences across the United States, from bars and clubs to museums and art galleries to the occasional historic cemetery.
