Ben Burgunder loves mosquitoes. Ironic, considering that his job involves killing them by the thousands to reduce the risk of West Nile virus! This presentation will cover the good, the bad, and the interesting when it comes to these pesky and deadly creatures. There will be time for all of the mosquito questions you are itching to ask! Ben will also share tips to reduce mosquito numbers around your home and prevent mosquito bites.

Originally from Baltimore County, Ben Burgunder works as a public health specialist in Pennsylvania, searching for and eliminating the mosquitoes that spread West Nile virus. He earned a Master of Science in Entomology at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research there focused on West Nile virus surveillance in Chicago, a viral hotspot. Ben is also passionate about insect photography and using iNaturalist to learn more about the natural world.
