We will investigate an ephemeral breeding pond used by Spotted Salamanders (Ambystoma maculata) during their spring reproductive cycle.  There should be egg masses in the pond and we may be fortunate enough to see an adult salamander at the site. BE PREPARED FOR WET AND MUDDY CONDITIONS.

Please note there is a park entrance fee of $3 for Maryland residents and $4 for non-residents.

Our leader, Lou Horwitz, completed his Master's Thesis at Johns Hopkins University studying reproductive behavior of Spotted Salamanders at Black Marsh over a 3 year period.

Lou, like most of the other people who lead NHSM field trips, is a volunteer, so your money will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible. Donate or become a member of the Natural History Society of Maryland by visiting https://marylandnature.org/support-maryland-nature/.

Opportunity:  A volunteer is needed to assist with participant sign-in and collecting waivers. If you would like to volunteer the event cost is waived. Please contact Emily at eglaeser@marylandnature.org for more information.
