This class will introduce students to the process and techniques behind basic small mammal taxidermy. Students will learn how to prep, preserve, mount, and position the animal (Students will be shown how to properly and safely remove the tail bones and meat completely.) Basic armatures will be used and students will learn how to carve head forms. We will discuss how to properly mold items for taxidermy use at home.

Students are encouraged to bring in any props they may want to dress the animal up in. I will provide all specimens, materials, and tools for the class. Each student will leave with his or her own finished mount.

Bio:Katie Innamorato is a modern-day Anubis, aiming to preserve and honor the deceased in their afterlife. She has been professionally trained and competes at state and world level championships. She travels and teaches, she has teamed up with The Field Museum for an educational video, taught classes for the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation, and worked with the SVA in NYC for classes as well. She has supplied pieces to Bergdorf Goodman, featured on tv, profiled in the book Taxidermy Art, along with coauthoring the book, “STUFFED ANIMALS.”​​ Katie also offers a diverse amount of options for pet after care.
