Who's Singing In Your Backyard? A Guide to the 2020 Cricket Crawl

Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Citizen Scientists, lend me your ears.

Who is singing in your neighborhood on these warm, late summer evenings? Lots of crickets and katydids! Find out about these insect singers and learn how to distinguish the calls of six different commonly occurring species that will be the target of Friday’s Cricket Crawl, a sound census of singing insects.  NOTE: This year’s Cricket Crawl is happening on August 21. Cathy Stragar is a naturalist and entomologist in the MDDCVA region and has been taking folks outside to listen for insects for the past nine years or so.

This is a free event designed to engage more people in citizen science. You will receive a link to the Zoom meeting after registering. During registration, there is the opportunity to donate to support the ongoing work of NHSM.
