Take a 2 billion year journey of plants through the fossil record starting with cyanobacteria and algae to the movement of plants out of the sea onto land where the development of woody structures let them move inland and start the “greening of the earth.” We will look at changes in reproductive methods from spore release to seeded plants such as ginkgoes and conifers to flowering plants which colored the globe ending with the emergence of grasses that feed both long legged grazers and humans.
Presented by NHSM’s intellectual treasure, Tom Piscitelli.
While we wanted to opffer this as a hybrid program – the decision has been made for this to be online only. Apologies for the confusion.
Natural History Society of Maryland’s Fossil Club is a group of novice and more experienced collectors will meet to exchange knowledge and help with fossil identification, discuss fossil locations, as well as other fossil related topics. Monthly meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at the Natural History Society of Maryland. Due to COVID, NHSM is opening up this club meeting to all. Non-members are asked to donate $5. If you are a fossil enthusiast, please consider joining (

). The Natural History Society of Maryland is a volunteer-led non-profit organization, so the fee you pay will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible
