Whether you are just starting or have a well-established life-list, all are welcome. The Natural History Society of Maryland is uniquely situated on a ridge that provides wide sky vistas. It is the perfect place to spot migrating hawks – especially in the spring when the wind is blowing from the South. But hawks aren’t the only feathered friends that can be spotted in and around the grounds of the museum. Baltimore is a hotspot for bird diversity. Some stay year-long. Others, like the chimney swifts, make pit spots.
Local bird enthusiast, Kevin Graff, will be on hand on the second Thursday of select months to help introduce newbies to the joy of birding. More experienced birders are also welcome to help. Plus it’s just more fun to bird with others. Bring your own binoculars, or borrow a pair. Kevin will teach you how to use them, what to look, for and more including how to use a field guide. We will also have some spotting scopes set up to see really high in the air. Together we can create a bird list for the Overlea Community.
While the event is FREE, for planning purposes, we do ask that you RSVP. Come when you can, leave when you want.
NOTE: The building will be open, so there is access to bathroom.
