Pre-European Native American human figures are a category of artifact that are not examined with the same degree of detail as ceramic containers and projectile points. Across North America, human figures were created in many materials, in many sizes, and situated in many contexts suggesting that their social uses were very complex. Unlike containers and points, human figures have more frequently been drawn into western art historical discussions of the human figure and evaluated against western standards. Examining these human figures amongst themselves is the ongoing goal of my research.
