Experience the night sky nestled in a reclining seat surrounded by a warm theater. It’s a perfect wintertime outing with your date, your friends, or by yourself. Join us for this event of astronomical proportions at the Towson Planetarium with university lecturer Christian Ready. He will introduce us to what’s happening in our local night sky and following his talk, we’ll watch the film, The Secret Life of Stars, narrated by Patrick Stewart. In the movie, viewers witness an amazing variety of stars and peer into their secret lives. Some stars are massive while others are tiny, nearly insignificant. Their specific characteristics determine what type of life they will lead, how long they may live, and even the type of death they will experience.
If the weather permits, we’ll move outside to use their 16-inch diameter Ritchey-Chrétien telescope and portable telescopes for local sky viewing.
The Towson Planetarium is an all-digital system, newly built in 2021. Its 24-foot  diameter dome, 4K-by-4K ultra-high-definition image, and quadrophonic sound system will immerse you into the cosmos.

Our lecturer Christian Ready fell in love with outer space at a young age. The idea of becoming an astronomer started when his parents sat him down in front of a television, where he admits he was raised on reruns of the classic television show Star Trek.  Ready lectures in TU’s Department of Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences. He is also the director of the university’s planetarium. A video about Mr Ready can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/779700944.

This program is appropriate for ages 5 and up. Children should be comfortable in the dark.
