Mariposas

Mariposas (the Spanish word for “butterflies”) is a new board game from Elizabeth Hargrave, the creator of Wingspan. Mariposas allows players to fly for 3 seasons as monarch butterflies migrating north from Mexico across the US & Canada. Each season has a different goal that can award points if met, and each butterfly that players get back to Mexico at the end of Fall season also earns points. Throughout migration, butterflies will forage at various flowers, hatch new generations of butterflies, and collect bonuses from Waystations. Each game you play will have a different array of seasonal goals and Waystation bonuses. Can you balance the allure of discovering new Waystation bonuses against the waning seasons to bring your final generation of butterflies back to Mexico?

For more information, visit the game’s official website: https://www.alderac.com/mariposas/

NHSM’s Lepidoptery Club invites you to learn and play with us! All are welcome. Don’t worry if you’ve never played before; we’ll offer hands-on instruction. Please contact the club coordinator (mfalk@marylandnature.org) with any questions.

If you love butterflies and moths, consider joining the NHSM Lep Club. Made up of novice and expert lepidopterists who meet to exchange knowledge and support concerning habitat, threats, food sources, identification, and life cycle of butterflies and moths, the Lep Club encourages the sharing of knowledge for the raising and breeding of moths and butterflies through hands-on lessons and guest speakers. Club members are also involved in outreach in the greater Baltimore community through educational programs and service projects. Club meetings often feature a guest speaker who shares their knowledge on a topic related to moths and butterflies. Meetings also include time to distribute caterpillars, eggs, and host plants.
