Have you thanked a spider lately? To most of us, spiders are unwelcome visitors in our homes and creepy denizens of our yards and forests. But if you take the time to get to know them, you'll find that spiders play important roles in our ecosystem! Learn to identify common Maryland spiders, discover the fascinating habits of these misunderstood creatures, and meet a real live spider!

Jane Marlow has worked in education and animal care at the Maryland Zoo and the National Aquarium, totaling over 13 years experience in professional animal care and wildlife education. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Animal Behavior Analysis, and while doing so, she operates her own business as an animal behavior consultant and educator. She is a certified trainer through the IAATE’s International Animal Trainer Certification Board. Ms. Marlow has taught animal behavior classes for a variety of organizations, including the Maryland SPCA, Baltimore County Animal Services, Maryland Master Naturalists, and the Baltimore Bird Fanciers; and serves on the Board of Directors for the Susquehannock Wildlife Society.

The Natural History Society of Maryland is a volunteer-led non-profit organization, so the fee you pay will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible.
