Star of Bethlehem

Join Dr. Joel Goodman for a presentation that explores possible astronomical explanations for the Star of Bethlehem.  No matter what your faith, discover documented celestial and historical events that took place over 2,00 years ago that prompted the Magi to come to Jerusalem.

A short bio:

Dr. Joel Goodman is founder of the Celestial Searchers, a children’s astronomy club in Howard County and the Observatory Director of the non-profit Howard Astronomical League.  Joel, a retired family dentist, also programs and presents planetarium shows in the NatureSphere at the Robinson Nature Center in Columbia and mentors middle school students participating in the Afterschool Universe and Skynet Junior Scholars programs. He is a NASA Solar System Ambassador and a member of the 2018 cohort of the Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassadors Program.  Building on the enthusiasm displayed by parents and students over the past 20 years, Joel is committed to promoting and supporting astronomy and space education in the area.

The Natural History Society of Maryland is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and contributions are tax-deductible.

The mission of the Natural History Society of Maryland is to foster stewardship of Maryland’s natural heritage by conserving its natural history collections, educating its citizenry, and inspiring its youth to pursue careers in the natural sciences.
