The Natural History Society of Maryland will reevaluate our cancellation policy after April 10, 2020. We will make our decision based on State and National guidelines concerning COVID-19.

If mosses intrigue you when you hike but you wonder exactly what you are seeing, this is your chance to figure it out in a fun environment. On the last Saturday of each month, we’ll take a closer look at a moss or two and work together to identify them. We’ll introduce you to the vocabulary and work through moss keys together. A walk down your street will never be the same!

Newcomers will spend the first hour looking at mosses and learning some basics about their life history. Then we’ll join the regular attendees and use microscopes to look closer at what we find.

Leaders: The sessions will be facilitated by Charlie Davis and Linda Davis. The Davises have been offering these workshops since 2009.  Charlie is a professional field ecologist who specializes in plants. Charlie and Linda have inventoried mosses for the National Park Service at Piscataway Park, Fort Washington Park, and Great Falls Park. Both Charlie and Linda are volunteers, so your money for these sessions will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible.

Cost: $10
