Every observation can contribute to biodiversity science, from the rarest butterfly to the most common backyard weed.

iNaturalist is a social networking service of naturalists, citizen scientists, and biologists built on the concept of mapping and sharing observations of biodiversity across the globe. iNaturalist helps you identify plants and animals with visually similar suggestions and verification by dedicated contributors. Get connected with a community of over a million scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature! By recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create research-quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. I naturalist is also the application used in the City Nature Challenge, an annual friendly competition among cities across the globe to find and document plants and wildlife over a four-day period (April 30-May 3, 2021).

The Natural History Society of Maryland would like to make sure you are ready for this bioblitz! You don’t need to be a wildlife expert—all skill levels are welcome to participate. After registering, download iNaturalist and join us for an evening presentation on how to use the app with National Park Ranger, Bill Curtis, a National Park Ranger currently stationed at Hampton National Historic Site and Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.

NHSM is committed to supporting ongoing research by serving as a community scientist pipeline. These presentations are free to attend. You will have the opportunity to donate financially to NHSM during the registration process. Please direct any questions to bstrong@marylandnature.org
