Humans are collectors. But how do you collect trees? You plant them. Arboretums are museums of trees; areas where many varieties of trees are grown for research, educational, ornamental and recreational purposes. Join representatives from arboretums* across the state to celebrate Arbor Day (April 30) with this unique tribute to trees.
Did you know? The term arboretum was first used in an English publication by John Claudius Loudon in 1833 in The Gardener’s Magazine but the concept was already long-established by then. In fact, Egyptian Pharaohs were known to have planted exotic trees and care for them; they brought ebony wood from the Sudan, pine and cedar from Syria and Frankincense trees from Punt (now Somalia).
