This special trip to a private beach is open to adult members of the NHSM Fossil Club only. While we love kids, and they are welcome on most trips, this trip is adult only. You must be 18 years or older. Scientists Cliffs is a private community located in Calvert County, Maryland.  Spaces in this trip are extremely limited. We are luck to be able to offer two dates. Please register for only one of the dates to allow as many club members as possible this incredible opportunity. Exact location details will be sent to participants in a separate email after registering. NOTE: Event will start promptly at 9:15 AM for a brief presentation about the Cliffs followed by a fossil hunt on the beach.

The tall cliffs along the edge of the bay contain one of the world’s richest fossil deposits from the Miocene period. The cliffs are part of the Calvert Formation. Carcharodon megalodon teeth are found in this area. Participants should be able to walk at least one mile on a sandy & pebbly beach. Participants may need to crawl under or climb over trees that have fallen over the beach. Participants may need to walk into water above their knees to get around fallen trees.  Participants are not permitted to climb on cliffs to get around obstacles on the beach or look for fossils.

RAIN DATE – Saturday 10/24, starting promptly at 9:00 AM

Peter Vogt is our Scientists Cliffs geoscientist sponsor or host
Scientists Cliffs (like most others along the Calvert Cliffs) is a  private community–no public access.
