It’s our 94th birthday. Come help us celebrate as we honor the contributions of one of our first Curators of Minerals, and author of the 1940 publication, Minerals of Maryland, Mr. Charles W. Ostrander.

It will be a “Rocking” Good Time as our current curator of minerals and President of the Baltimore Mineral Society, Al Pribula presents about the NHSM collection in general, highlighting some of its more important specimens. An exhibit of specimens collected by Ostrander will be on display. The NHSM standard displays of Minerals of Maryland and the World are not to be missed either.

If you have rocks or minerals you would like help in ID’ing, bring those to the event. NHSM’s experts will be on hand to help you better understand what you have found.

If you dig rocks – come geek out with other rockhounds at the Natural History Society of Maryland. There will also be cake! It is a birthday celebration.

NOTE: If you have any information about Ostrander, or any specimens that might be related to him, the NHSM would be interested. Even second- or third-hand stories. Email bstrong@marylandnature.org.
