April is officially Archaeology Month in Maryland. to celebrate, the NHSM Archaeology Club is hosting Archaeo-Expo. The 2023 theme is, Where Did You Find that Artifact? Context is Crucial in Maryland Archaeology.

Archaeology has played an integral role in NHSM’s 93 history. We are home to specimens that help trace the cultural story of the land we now call Maryland. Join us for the day and learn more through exhibits, activities, crafts and presentations.

Doors open at 1:00 for this event. Beginning at 2:00, there will be a panel discussion on the topic of “Archaeology: Pastime and/or Profession.”

Moderated by Ethan Bean, an archaeologist with the Army Corps of Engineers, the panel will include:

  • Dr. Katherine Sterner, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Baltimore Community Archaeology Lab, Towson University;
  • Mr. Daniel Dean, Research Chair, Marshy Point Nature Center Council; Member, Archeological Society of Maryland and Maryland Free-State Treasure Club;
