Join us for a presentation from long time NHSM Lep club member, avid gardener and local artist Constance Scott for an introduction to the basics of Lep husbandry and two local butterfly species. If you have ever found a caterpillar on your plants and wanted to raise it to show kids or just to observe its life cycle this will provide you with the basics in care so that you can successfully raise them to an adult Butterfly or Moth. Information as to where to get the mesh cages will also be provided.

The two local butterfly species to be highlighted are the Red Spotted Purples (Limenitis Arthemis Astyanax) and Zebra Swallowtails (Eurytides Marcellus)  going into detail about their  life cycles and how to find them in the wild. This will be a unique opportunity to learn about these lesser known Leps.

The NHSM Lepidoptery Club meets the fourth Wednesday of every month at 6908 Belair Rd. Register to receive email updates about this month’s program.

If you love butterflies and moths, consider joining the NHSM Lep Club. Made up of novice and expert lepidopterists who meet to exchange knowledge and support concerning habitat, threats, food sources, identification, and life cycle of butterflies and moths, the Lep Club encourages the sharing of knowledge for the raising and breeding of moths and butterflies through hands-on lessons and guest speakers. Club members are also involved in outreach in the greater Baltimore community through educational programs and service projects.

Annual NHSM membership is $35 for individuals, $50 for families; Lep Club membership is an additional $5 for individuals and $10 for families. Although you don’t need to be a member to attend our meetings, your membership dues support our programs and give you access to exclusive field trips and other events.
