Meet “The Bug Guy,” or rather, Dr. Michael Raupp, and some of his best insect friends at the University of Maryland’s Insect Zoo. Dr. Raupp is well known for his popular Bug of the Week website and YouTube channel. As a professor of Entomology, he shares his knowledge of insect behavior with thousands of people weekly in 200 countries. We’ll learn about our local Maryland native insects during the first portion of our visit with Dr. Raupp. After a short break, we’ll move into the Insect Zoo to meet zoo manager Todd Waters and his newest residents, which may include giant lubber locusts, several walking stick varieties, green tiger beetles, black widow spiders, hissing cockroaches, and a giant tarantula. We will learn what the insects eat, and how they are fed and managed.
Participants may hold or touch some of the specimens. Or not. Don’t worry if touching isn’t your thing.
