Go with the Flow Explore Life and Ecosystem in a Stream @ Oregon Ridge Park

Aquatic macroinvertebrates are biota large enough to see without a magnifier (for example Mayflies, snails and crayfish.) They are an important part of stream ecosystems for scientists, naturalists and folks who like nature. Here we’ll discover why they are important by seeing them up close, through microscopes alongside the historic Oregon Branch in Cockeysville, MD. We’ll catch them, see their homes up close and learn about how they can tell us a story about their stream’s health.

NHSM volunteers and Park Naturalists will show participants how to catch and identify macroinvertebrates and to recognize key features of healthy streams. Suitable for ages 6 and up. All equipment will be provided. Dress for the weather and prepare to get wet and muddy.

• Location – Oregon Ridge Park is in Baltimore County, off of Shawan Rd., just west of the Hunt Valley, MD (exact meeting location will be provided upon registration)
• Free, but please RSVP for planning purposes. Donations are accepted and much appreciated.

ABOUT Oregon Ridge Park– Oregon Ridge Park is a facility of Baltimore County Recreation and Parks. It is a 1,043-acre park and Nature Center, with numerous hiking trails, historical exhibits, educational programs and more!  The Park is supported by the Oregon Ridge Nature Center Council, Inc., a non-profit volunteer-based organization that provides funds for a variety of activities. These focus on topics such as conservation and natural history, and include festivals, seasonal programs, topical seminars, and trail walks, etc.
